Some of Florida’s best swimming holes are right along the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway, including the ever-popular Juniper Springs.
Juniper Springs Recreation Area, one of the oldest and best known national forest recreation areas in the east, was recently named as one of ReserveAmerica’s Top 100 Family Campgrounds. The Juniper Canoe Run was also named one of the Top 25 Canoeing Spots.
Constructed in the 1930′s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), it has semi-tropical scenery not found on any other national forest in the continental United States. The combined daily water flow from Juniper and Fern Hammock Springs is about 13 million gallons. Water temperature is a constant 72 degrees F. The 79-unit campground is open for year-round camping.
